Duke’s and Harris Teeter’s Carolina Charm Program
CHARLOTTE, NC — The flavors that define the Carolinas are as varied as the terrain of the two states. Carolinas cuisine encompasses farm-fresh traditions, wild game, sweet treats and just about everything in between. It’s distinctly Carolinas, and it’s simply charming.
For the second year, home-grown supermarket Harris Teeter (founded in 1936 in North Carolina) is celebrating that deep-rooted heritage with Carolina Charm, a program shining the spotlight on 16 Carolina brands available at Harris Teeter stores across the Carolinas:
- Hunter Farms
- Cheerwine
- Snyder-Lance
- Smithfield
- Duke’s Mayonnaise
- Texas Pete
- Creative Snacks
- Butterball
- Burt’s Bees
- Lindy’s Italian Ice
- McCall Farms/Margaret Holmes
- Front Porch
- Charleston Mix
- James Foods
- Mt. Olive
- Carolina Bison
“This is Harris Teeter’s second year participating in Carolina Charm, and we are thrilled with the opportunity to promote our vibrant selection of local products and the hard-working people and families behind those products,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “Our company was born and raised here in North Carolina, so participating in a program like Carolina Charm allows us to not only celebrate and educate our shoppers on the rich legacy of our Carolina
brands, but it also helps us remain true to our roots.”
The brands epitomize the Carolina spirit, rich with family history, institutional reputation and individuality so representative of our region.
So what is Carolina Charm? You know it when you see it and taste it, says Southern storyteller and author Bill Thompson. “It’s Sunday dinner at Grandma’s … pig-pickin’s and tailgate parties. It’s a neighbor’s casserole and a fancy cake at a niece’s wedding.”
“It’s knowing that barbecue is both a noun and a verb,” Thompson continues. “That’s what Carolina Charm is. It’s people who take care of the charm of the Carolinas.”
Harris Teeter and the participating brands are making sure the summer will be filled with charming opportunities to celebrate the region that we love, including a special section highlighting the “People Behind the Brands” in August’s issue of Our State magazine. Harris Teeter stores will feature an instore display where Carolina Charm brands will be on sale from July 29 through Aug. 25. To round out the summer, consumers can sample Carolina Charm products at the Labor Day Weekend Parade in
Matthews, N.C. on Sept. 5.
