The Military Connection to Duke's Mayonnaise

If you look in a Southerner's pantry, you're more than likely to find a jar or two of Duke's mayo. The South Carolina-based condiment is known for it's tangier taste (there's no added sugar and more egg yolks than other mayo brands), so it's the ultimate addition to pimento cheese, Alabama white sauce and all of our other delicacies.

But did you know that the mayo has a connection to the military? Well, keep on reading.

In the early 1900s, Columbus, Ga., native Eugenia Thomas and her husband, Harry Duke, moved to Greenville, South Carolina, according to the Duke's Mayo website. (Harry had a job with Southern Power Co.) When World World War I began, lots of National Guardsmen came to nearby Camp Sevier for training.
